Engagement & Outreach

Engaging with the Industry

NBCUniversal partners with organizations across the industry to help progress sustainability in entertainment.

As a founding member of the Sustainable Entertainment Alliance, we collaborate with other studios and production companies to develop sustainability resources and tools for use both on set and on screen. We also support the work of the Environmental Media Association, Hollywood Climate Summit, NRDC’s Rewrite the Future, and other industry organizations working in this space.

Our productions have received global recognition over the years for implementing both sustainable practices and environmental storylines. The Environmental Media Awards, BAFTA albert certifications, the Lumen Awards, Screen International Global Production Awards, Habits of Waste, and more have recognized achievements across our program and productions.

Events & Activations

Through sponsorships, programming, speaking engagements, and more, NBCUniversal lends its voice to events at the intersection of entertainment and the environment.

In addition to programming events such as our Twisters conversation at Hollywood Climate Summit, we also look for opportunities to host conversations around sustainability at industry events both internally and externally, including a Sundance panel with Quinta Brunson and Mike Schur, and SXSW panels including one with Monkeypaw’s Ian Cooper and GreenerLight’s Kimberly Burnick. We also maintain a presence at global sustainability conferences, participating at events including COP and Climate Week NYC.

Amplifying Storytellers

NBCUniversal amplifies storytelling initiatives to expand the pipeline for compelling environmental stories.

NBCUniversal is the studio sponsor for NRDC’s Climate Storytelling Fellowship, in partnership with The Black List, The Redford Center, and the CAA Foundation. Mentors from the 2024 Fellowship cycle included Daniel Scheinert and Mike Schur, who both have producing deals with NBCUniversal.

We also host the Hollywood Climate Summit’s Writing Climate Pitchfest, which celebrates excellence in climate-themed film and television scripts by connecting writers of unproduced material to Hollywood executives, producers, agents, and managers through curated one-on-one meetings. And to support stories that have already been made, we sponsored the Climate Film Festival in New York City in its inaugural year.
